Henk Nies is endowed professor of Organisation and Policy in Long-term Care at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Moreover, he is member of the Quality Council of the Netherlands Health Care Institute and at the supervisory board of AxionContinu, a large long-term care organisation in Utrecht. At international level, he is vice-president and co-founder of Eurocarers, organisation working for informal carers.
He graduated as a psychogerontologist and worked all his career at the edge of practice, policy and research. He was long time CEO and member of the Executive Board of Vilans, the National Centre of Expertise in Long-term care in The Netherlands.
He set up and worked in large implementation programs in the Netherlands. Furthermore, he has been working in various European projects, in praticular focusing on long-term care, integrated care, quality assurance and primary care for older people.
