Digital tools helping you to move within the EU
Approximately 14 million EU citizens work in a different EU country than their own, comparable to the population of a medium-sized EU country. However, citizens still face challenges when exercising their right to free movement.
This session, moderated by Cosmin Boiangiu, Executive Director of the European Labour Authority, explored the range of EU digital tools helping individuals move between Member States, claim their rights, enterprises to find the right workers even if they live in another Member State and authorities to implement and follow-up on the correct application of rules. The session also identified further actions that could be taken.
Speakers included David-Pascal Dion, Acting Director at the European Commission, Alessia Vetere, Coordinator of the EURADRIA Cross-Border Partnership Italy/Slovenia, and Sacha Garben, Professor of EU Law at the College of Europe. They highlighted the functioning of EURES, supported by Europass and ESCO, and also the achievements like the Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information (EESSI) and the Internal Market Information System (IMI). They also discussed ongoing developments, such as the digital European Social Security Pass (ESSPASS) and a recent Commission proposal for a public interface to declare posted workers.
The discussions emphasized the potential of digitalisation and automation in this area, while also stressing the critical importance of data protection and privacy.
