Biography
Mikkel Barslund has over 20 years of experience in the fields of European labour markets and demographic ageing. His experience spans a wide range of themes, including skills and green jobs, labour mobility, migration and integration, youth unemployment, older workers' employment, pensions, health and LTC care, and working conditions.
Mikkel’s current work is focused on labour market changes stemming from the green transition, automation and demographic change. He is managing HIVA’s work in the LAMARTRA project—a Belgian Science Foundation project on the green transition and in the Horizon Europe project WeLaR. Until its end in January 2024, he coordinated the H2020 research project Untangled on the impact of ageing, globalisation, and technological transformations on the labour market.
Mikkel has previously worked at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) where he led the Ageing Societies research programme. Earlier in his career, he was a senior economist at the Danish Economic Council and a junior economist at the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Business Affairs. His educational background is a Ph.D. in economic modelling and quantitative methods from University of Copenhagen and a master’s in economics from University College London.
