Biography
Michael is an economist in the Economics Department of the European Investment Bank (EIB). He is responsible for the department’s work on labour market development, skills, social investment and cohesion, and is the EIB’s country economist for the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania). He is also a lead author of the EIB Investment Report, the Bank’s annual flagship report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the developments and drivers of investment and investment finance in the European Union. Before joining the EIB, Michael spent over five years at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, working on international macroeconomic and global tax policies, also as a programme manager for South Africa. Prior to the OECD, he undertook research at the Dutch Central Bank, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Michael holds master’s degrees in economics from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and Fudan University in Shanghai, and a PhD in economics from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University.
