After graduating as a fully qualified lawyer in Germany 1995, Ms. Wegner-Wahnschaffe started her career in the litigation department of the Supplementary Pension Institution of the German Federation and the States, VBL. In 2003 she changed to the VBL Board Department as an adviser on strategical, associational and European matters. Since 2009 she is Head of the International Department dealing with questions of European and international pension law, national and cross boarder cooperation through joint projects and initiatives. One subject was the development of the FindyourPension website and network for mobile researchers which was managed by Claudia since 2011 followed by the ETS pilot project from 2019 until 2022. At the end of the project, the ETS Association e.V. has been founded of which Claudia is the 1st chairperson since 2022.

In addition, Claudia acts as chairperson of the European Association of Public Sector Pension Institutions (EAPSPI) since 2019. She is also representing the VBL in German stakeholder groups such as the GVG, Society for Insurance- Design and- Science or aba (German Association on occupational pension provision). In the year 2020 she was appointed as member of the EIOPA Expert Group on Pension Tracking and has furthermore contributed as a member of one of the stakeholder groups of the German Agency establishing the German Digital Pension Overview (DigiRü).
