This session will look at concrete cases that show how Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining can be used to support citizens and institutions. These technologies are already used by certain institutions to detect undeclared work and cases of fraud in the granting of social security benefits, such as the Italian institution INPS and the Belgian Social Information and Investigation Service (SIIS). Member States have shown increased interest in AI and we can expect that its use by social security institutions and labour inspectorates will grow significantly over the next years. For instance, chatbots (automated inquiry services) are emerging as a tool that can add value, by increasing the availability of advice services. Exchange of information and sharing of good practices is key to reach the full potential of this technology.  

At the same time, the bilateral and multilateral exchange of information and the interconnection of databases in a cross-border context is already a reality in some countries and its link with AI could be further explored. The solution introduced by Finland and Estonia to automate the data exchange between their national population registers is just one example of that.
